There is a Young Woman in Washington DC Who Does Not Like Us

A young woman named GreenEggsSamDC has written a blog posting titled My Campaign to Demote Delaware! on her blog Chapter 2006. (Warning: linked blog-posting contains some language unsuitable for smaller children and my Mother. Some of which may be quoted below.)
I'd like to suggest we, as a nation, take away Delaware's status as a state. It is the most worthless place in the US.
Ms. GreenEggsSamDC apparently traveled north recently on I-95 and was stuck in traffic, likely because of construction involving toll booths. It was an unpleasant experience and has led to Ms. GreenEggsSamDC characterization of our state as a "Damn cockblocking state."
An aside. This is an expression that I have not heard before. It is rich in suggestive negativeness but new to my ears.
Ms. GreenEggsSamDC suggests that Delaware be de-Stated and shared out among surrounding states and that statehood pass to some more worthy territory. She suggests Guam.

She then rehearses some of our state's unfortunate stereotypes, in arguments both for an against demotion of Delaware.

I think we should reach out to this unfortunate young woman and offer our hospitality and understanding. Perhaps we can win her back.

Or we could post her name and picture in the I-95 toll booths and have the toll-takers tell her to beat it if she tries to pass this way again.

That is rich coming from someone in the "DISTRICT" of Columbia.

Apologies to the state of Delaware. I was extremely irritated to be sitting in traffic, but I am sure there are plenty of reasons to love it. Who's in charge of ya'lls roads? Doesn't it make people living in Delaware irritated too?

GreenEgg Girl, glad you could drop in. I figured you were just venting, but it was just such a complete and thorough venting that I had to link to it.

It is a nice state, however small. I'm a native DCian, born in the District and raised in the 'Burbs. I came here for a job and, once I'd seen the City of Lewes, I didn't want to leave again.

Our DOT is much maligned and sometimes deserves it, but they do make an effort and sometimes their repair work goes more smoothly and quickly than we have a right to expect.

Any work on our small bit of I-95, though, is bound to cause problems.

I definitely will check out Lewes... once I-95 is cleared. They should add more booths to the tolls... that might be the biggest problem. Or, maybe when they're doing construction, they should allow the tolls to be free. All the same, I do apologize to you and your state!

That northern traffic can be killer and its beginning to creep further south more and more! I've lived here for the majority of my life and yeah its got its problems, but so does just about everywhere else...

Avoid I-95 in DE at all costs! Of course, that's easy for a local to say.

If you take up Mahaffie's suggestion about Lewis, no need to worry/care about I-95. DE-1 is the issue there, but mostly in summer time. From DC, US50-E to MD404 to US9-E. Is that right, Mike? That route 404 once it is in DE is what I am unsure about.

Greenie,

Personally, I laughed my @ss off at your rant. I've found myself with many of the same thoughts while pounding my steering wheel in abject rage at the inept DOT.

I mean, really, how long does it take to fix one friggin overpass?

Thanks DV, though now I'm not sure I really want to know....
