Lucky Sevens?

This evening I reached 77,777 miles on my Prius. I knew I'd reach this point today; I could see it coming last night. I rolled into all those sevens a bit past 5:00 p.m. I was just north of Milford.

I pulled over, with flashers on, to take the picture.

It has been just over four months since 66,666.

You drove 11,111 miles in just over 4 months? Good Grief! No wonder you were the first person in North America to buy a Prius.

Maybe the state government could move some of its operations to Milford, or even Georgetown.

And maybe (in an even more unlikely scenario) your daughters, instead of going to a high school on the other side of the county, could go to the one -- across the street from your house!

Well, that works out to an average of 86.8046875 miles per day.

My Commute is just about 80 miles, round trip. Of course, week-ends and vacations change the daily average, usually to much less.

Also, I figure that I drove the 22 miles (round trip) to and from the girls' dance studio about 8 times per week. That's about 25 miles per day, averaged over all 7 days of the week.

Interestingly (to me, anyway), I averaged only 75.585034 miles per day between September and February.

I don't believe that this analysis has any practical use whatever, but it has been great fun.

...and on one tank of gas. Amazing.

But seriously Mike - how walkable is your life? Mine scores about a 1 on a scale of 1 being very unwalkable and 10 being "I live in Manhattan and never have to get into a car."

Almost everything I do (both at work and at home) requires me to get into a car. It sucks. Our "planning" sucks on such a level that I go catatonic when I think about it and can't...

Jason expanded on his thought over at DelawareLiberal.

He asks a good question, which I took a crack at answering over there.

BTW Mike, I was not calling you out. Just wishing I had more non-car options.

I did not know where Jason was getting this subject matter but it is certainly very apropo since smart growth insists it is their raison d'etre

More importantly, couldn't you have borrowed a car and let this one turn over to 77,777 at 7am on July 7th of 2007, or is that too early to get up on a Saturday?

Perhaps keep this in mind for 88,888 miles at 8am on August 8th, 2008. That one is a Friday.
